Charlize Theron was born in South Africa and started her carreer as a ballet dancer and model. She danced at the Joffrey Ballet in New York but a knee injury took her out of the dancing business. At only 18 she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a film carrer and 8 months later she got a role in her first film. She has one academy award.
